Geneva's market scene reflects the city's dual identity — French-speaking, international, and more relaxed about time than the German-speaking cantons. Plainpalais is the cornerstone: a large open square that hosts markets on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and the first Sunday of the month, each with a slightly different character. The Brocante de Carouge, across the Arve river in the charming neighbourhood of Carouge, is worth the short tram ride — it has the feel of a Parisian marché aux puces in miniature. Geneva's markets tend to feature more brocante-style goods (decorative antiques, tableware, prints) than the pure junk-and-vinyl mix of German-Swiss markets. Bring euros as well as francs — cross-border sellers are common.
